2026 EED Meeting: The Microbial Influence on Developmental Biological Processes

European Evolution and Development (EED) Conference, Glasgow, June 9-12th

For the first time in the history of the European Evolution and Development (EED) Conference, a symposium was held on the topic of the microbial influence on development. Thomas Bosch and Tyler Carrier organized an interdisciplinary meeting as part of the 2026 EED Meeting in Glasgow. Experts from the US, France, Italy, Spain and Germany reported on the influence of microbial signals in a range of experimental systems involving plants and animals. Scott Gilbert participated in the concluding discussion. It became clear that a mechanistic and holistic understanding of developmental processes must also include the influence of microbial signals.

Invited speakers (amongst others):

  • Charles Copeland, MPI for Plant Breeding Research, Cologne, German
  • John Rawls, Duke University, USA
  • Azra Atabay, Institute of Functional Genomics of Lyon (IGFL),France
  • Helen Vuong, University Minneapolis, USA
  • Giulia Ghisleni, University of Milano Bicocca, Italy
