Gloria Dominguez-Bello and Martin J. Blaser on the ‘Microbiota Vault’-Initiative

As the first phase of our center is drawing to an end, we did a little recap of the major achievements in host-microbe research in Kiel: Here’s a short overview in a few numbers!

In order to cope with the problematic global decline of microbes and possibly achieve their permanent conservation in the future, Dominguez-Bello and Blaser have launched a new international project: The ‘Microbiota Vault’-Initiative aims at the preservation of microbial diversity by creating a technical facility that will enable the permanent storage and conservation of as many microorganisms as possible – that could potentially be important for human health.
